THE STORY BEHIND PURPLE

Purple is a dragon that has big feelings.

Often, children can have struggles to describe their emotions, and are still learning positive and effective ways to cope with feelings that can be overwhelming. Purple, The Dragon is a story about a kind dragon named Purple who turns blue one day when he is feeling sad.

Purple is blue, because he feels blue. By learning about Purple and how he learns to recognize, and accept his feelings, children can begin to understand their emotions and that it’s okay to feel what they feel.

What makes Purple,
The Dragon different?

Purple, The Dragon teaches emotional understanding and acceptance through empathy. As Purple navigates the world of his emotions, he changes different colours - blue for sadness, red for anger, yellow for fear, green for envy, and more. He is helped along his journey by his friends and family, and other dragonitos in the town of Nogard.

We all have felt strong emotions that sometimes we feel we cannot control. Maybe these emotions are too new or too intense? Maybe we’re not equipped with the tools and tactics needed to recognize, accept, and address these emotions positively and constructively.

Purple, The Dragon is a metaphor - he is a visible representation of his emotions. As we explore Purple’s adventures, his world, and his emotions, we begin to explore within ourselves and learn how emotions can affect our lives and the lives of those around us.

We believe that by accepting that it is okay to feel what we feel, each of us will be able to cope and manage our emotions in a better way.
